Othello

“When the knight Fell”

“WHEN THE KNIGHT FELL” is an audiobook musical that pays homage to a classic story by sparking our imagination and expanding our perspective. Author Christopher Gary Simmons elevates his unique form of spoken-word poetics by translating the iambic pentameter story telling of William Shakespeare into a traditionally old school hip-hop rhyme format. The musical production throughout the audiobook enhances the reading and listening experience, creating a profound appreciation for the combined power of literature and lyricism.

Othello’S “The Herald”

Hip-hop vs. Shakespeare is an audiobook concept for art, book and music lovers to connect with Shakespeare’s re-imagined characters. Social perceptions of race and class are all challenged here. This new narrative brings our main character to us as a racial minority among his peers, navigating a predominantly African American music community in a tough multi-cultural New York city. The short film trailer for the audiobook, titled “The Herald” was adapted from Act: 2 Scene: 2 of the original play, Othello. The scene aptly captures one of the more festive and vulnerable moments of the story.
